Why do I run?

2018 comes to a close and I've spent the latter part of the year post-Berlin attempting to rehab a soleus strain that is now only wearingly frustrating in its persistence. Too much too soon. Another unexpected lesson in patience but one I'm happy to receive. Look at what I have to show for my efforts … Continue reading Why do I run? →

Positive Recovery

I left a comment on a mental health-reated Instagram post by Chevy Rough earlier today, but, as might be expected I've been ruminating on it quite a bit this afternoon. I feel like a longer response, as part of the conversation Chevy hoped to start, is necessary. I haven't yet read the article to which … Continue reading Positive Recovery →

Race Report – Berlin Marathon 2018

I feel like this may not be the most conventional of race reports. Its a tale of two very different halves of a race. Stop reading here if you only want to read about PB runs achieved during Berlin 2018, or any kind of commentary about Eliud's massive new world record run. Incidentally, I hoped … Continue reading Race Report – Berlin Marathon 2018 →

Seven Miles not Twenty Miles

5 weeks out from Berlin Marathon. According to my original training plan that's still up on the kitchen cupboard today should have been my second 20 mile SLR. I did not run a twenty miler today. Today (Sunday) has been a strange day, some of which I have no intention of sharing. Instead of going … Continue reading Seven Miles not Twenty Miles →

Love Trails Festival, July 2019

Love Trails Festival, aka hundreds of Londoners (specifically runners) spend the weekend in South Wales. Well, maybe not that many, but it felt like it. There was a group of dudes from Seoul who came to the UK just for LTF. THAT is the pull and the power of this event.  I’ve felt so positive … Continue reading Love Trails Festival, July 2019 →

Race Report – Virgin Money London Marathon

Let me say right from the outset that I didn’t enjoy myself on 22nd April and I don’t intend to re-cap the entire race. Well, I say that I didn’t enjoy it, I did, but not for very long. This guy certainly did enjoy the latter part of his race though: That I didn’t enjoy … Continue reading Race Report – Virgin Money London Marathon →

The Big Half – Sunday 4th March

The first ever Big Half took place on Sunday 4th March. My plan going into the race was to use it to gauge how my training so far is going. It turned out to be a great race, more or less most of the first half of VMLM in reverse. Huge thanks must go to … Continue reading The Big Half – Sunday 4th March →

RDR Blog

I’m in dire need of an outlet. Cue what I’m calling RDR. Quite unexpectedly I have places in two World Marathon Majors in 2018. This is where I’ll be recording my thoughts on the journey to those races and beyond.

The smile of someone who's successfully managed about sixty minutes of running over two runs this week. Yeah whatever, you might think, but these runs were important guys! Absolutely no shin or calf pain whatsoever! The strain I thought might never go away has hopefully now made an exit and I can get back to laying down some very slow mileage. My recovery after Berlin in September has been much longer than I was expecting but I feel like I'm back. Now to explore some new (newish) running routes from the new house we moved in to in December. We haven't moved far but it feels new. #run #runner #running #runhappy #happyrunner #runningcommunity #londonrunner #londonrunning #londonrunners #runnersofinstagram #runnersoflondon
Out early for a parkrun course inspection after some overnight snow and then marshaled at Ian's Corner. A bit of slush didn't deter two hundred runners and the sun came out and warmed everyone up! Why do I not mind getting up early on a Saturday for parkrun but weekday get ups can be such a struggle? #run #runner #running #runningcommunity #runhappy #happyrunner #parkrun #parkrunuk #loveparkrun #greenwichparkrun #snow #snowday #snowinlondon #snowysaturday
